A stained snow metaphor and new Mariah Carey reaction memes.
This week’s bits ‘n’ bobs in life and culture.
Life
I love the month of February because it’s compact and cute. If short ‘n’ sweet was a month. Depending where you are in the world, snow, just piles and piles of snow, is a large part of this month. Deep in the throes of winter, but a peek into spring revival with March around the corner. Fitting set up for a month that means "month of purification” in Latin (februarius mensis).
On an early morning walk, where the streets were relatively empty, I paid more attention to the mounds of snow piled on the edges of the sidewalk. Specifically the stains. It was such a strange little rainbow of unidentifiable liquids sitting on top of the crisp Cloud Dancer white snow.

I don’t want to make this a whole thing, especially because I have a habit of finding and quickly discarding metaphors, but I think this one will last:
A snow stain, if nothing is done to remove it, will only get worse. One color, two color, three color four, each layer packing on top of the last until it’s all compressed into a block of gray packed ice and you can’t untangle any of it. Have to wait until the sun comes out to fix that one.

The Texas State Board of Education is looking to become the first state to have a statewide mandate on texts across K-12. This means that every student in the state would be required to read the same texts, throughout K-12. This includes text from The Bible
The girls tried it. Some valiantly, others not, in their tribute to Mariah Carey at the MusiCares Person of the Year Gala. Mariah responded diplomatically.
Unrivaled, a 3-on-3 women’s basketball league, set an attendance record in Philly this weekend drawing 21k+ fans to Xfinity Mobile Arena, a record for the venue (which is home to the 76ers and Flyers). Huge win for the league, especially as the WNBA still in a messy messy CBA battle
“The Witches of Wall Street” are blending tarot, numerology, astrology, and the like into money management and financial planning. As someone whose birth chart is 75% earth signs, I reject (but am very very very intrigued)!!!
